Uses Systemic use of polymyxin B has, in most cases, been replaced by more effective and less toxic antibiotics for infections caused by susceptible organisms. However, polymyxin B may be useful in infections caused by organisms resistant to these drugs. Polymyxin B sulfate has been used in the treatment of acute infections of the urinary tract or meninges, and of septicemia caused by susceptible strains of Ps. aeruginosa. The drug has also …

Norfloxacin: Drug Interactions • Antacids Antacids containing magnesium hydroxide or aluminum hydroxide may decrease absorption of oral norfloxacin, and the drugs probably should not be administered concomitantly. Patients should be instructed not to ingest antacids concomitantly with or within 2 hours of a norfloxacin dose. The mechanism of this interaction has not been fully elucidated to date, but studies using ciprofloxacin indicate that antacids containing magnesium and aluminum ions may bind to, and form insoluble complexes with, quinolones in the GI tract. • Antifungal Agents Norfloxacin is inactive against fungi when used alone, but results of …

Uses Ticarcillin shares many of the uses of other extended-spectrum penicillins and is used principally for the treatment of infections caused by susceptible gram-negative aerobic bacilli (e.g., susceptible strains of Proteus vulgaris, Providencia rettgeri, Morganella morganii, P. mirabilis, Escherichia coli, Enterobacter, Pseudomonas aeruginosa). The drug also has been used for the treatment of anaerobic or mixed aerobic-anaerobic bacterial infections or …

Uses Carbenicillin indanyl sodium is used only for the treatment of acute or chronic infections of the upper and lower urinary tract, asymptomatic bacteriuria, or prostatitis caused by susceptible organisms. • Urinary Tract Infections Oral carbenicillin indanyl sodium has been used with some success for short-term therapy or long-term suppressive therapy in the treatment of acute or chronic infections …
